Dhucking Your Responsibilities

Updated: Mar 31, 2022

Because there are only so many hours in the day, you may want to make sure that what you are spending your time on is aligned with your goals, priorities and values. I call this dhucking your responsibilities.

You can dhuck your responsibilities by asking the following questions:

Business:

  • Will this grow my business by bringing in more clients, more money, more information, more ...?

  • Is this required?

Personal:

  • Do I love to do it?

  • Do I feel that it is necessary?

If you answered "no" to all these questions, then...

DUMP IT

Business:

  • Can someone else do it quicker, better, cheaper?

  • Can I train someone to do this?

Personal:

  • Is there something else I would rather be doing?

  • Can someone else do it better, easier, or quicker?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then...

DELEGATE IT

Business & Personal:

  • What is good enough?

then, if you can...

DIMINISH IT

Business:

  • When do I need it by?

  • When does my boss, client, customer need it by?

  • Does it have to be done today?

Personal:

  • Does it have to be done today?

then, if you can...

DEFER IT

but schedule it now!

Business:

  • If this grows my business or is required,

  • If I'm the best person for this task,

  • If it is a priority now, and

  • If I know what is 'good enough',

Personal:

  • If I love doing it or feel it's necessary,

  • If I'm the best person for the task,

  • If it is a priority now, and

  • If I know what is 'good enough',

then...

DO IT!
