What is Organizing

Why did the dhuck cross..

"The whole point of organizing is to increase pleasure and reduce pain, and if your current system is not having that effect, you need to shift gears."

-- Making Peace with the Things in Your Life
by Cindy Glovinsky, M.S.W., A.C.S.W.

Being Organized Means:
  • finding what you want when you need it
  • getting done what you need to get done by when you need it
  • make it to your appointments on time
  • keep agreements you make
  • make agreements you can keep
  • take opportunities when they arise
  • you can enjoy what is important to you

I like to describe organizing as creating, developing and building a 'system or a strategy to make my life easier'.

Its -- Getting Your Dhucks in a Row

If stacking magazines in a pile by my chair works for me, then I'm organized (at least in that area). But if I kick the stack over every time I go by or I can't have my coffee with me while I am reading because the end table doesn't fit there anymore, then I am not organized. I have clutter. Clutter gets in the way of living my life. Clutter saps my energy, my time and my spirit.

So when I identify an area that isn't working for me, or something that drains the energy out of me, I go to work on de-cluttering and organizing it. Organizing it enough to make it work for me. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to work for ME. Of course, I don't live by myself or work by myself, so if it gets in the way of others then it needs to accomodate their needs also.

No, your house or office or even your life doesn't have to be perfectly organized. It just needs to be enough for you. Is my house organized perfectly. NO! Is there room for improvement in certain rooms, or even on some days? You bet. But each time I find something that is taking too much time to find, put back or get out, then I take a deep breath, let it out. Grab a cup of coffee or glass of water and start dreaming of how it could work for me. I use the Dhuck Steps to Organizing and Dhucking Responsibilities to help me here. But I always keep in mind my goal - make my life easier-- and then I keep it simple.
