Better Prepared

  • Get a Kit
  • Make a Plan
  • Be Informed
  • Get Involved

Do you have an emergency kit? If you don't have one, don't stress or give up. Start small. Start with a bag or a box and put a flash light or a first aid kit in it. Each week, add one more item.

If you already have a kit, have you checked it lately?

For a list of supplies to put in your kit, check out the Dhuck kits for Individuals & Families or Pets.

This notebook is your personal information center (PIC) intended to make it easier for you to collect all the important information on your family, home and finances in one place, so that in a move or in an emergency, you can Take Your PIC and go.
Take Your PIC
You'll need a way of keeping your important information with you. One option is to use the Take Your PIC notebook.

Be Informed

Do you know where you can get information on your local hazards? Or where you could go for more information if there was an emergency in your area? Check out some of these resources for more information and on-line training to help prepare for emergencies.

Get Involved

Once you and your family are prepared, you might consider getting prepared to help your community through the Citizen Corp or the American Red Cross. And even your local animal shelter might need your help in an emergency.

And if you would like me to come talk to your organization, business, association or group of friends on getting prepared, I offer the following presentation for free:

Personal & Business Emergency Preparedness

Why is it that with all the brochures, checklists, websites and reminders to prepare our businesses, our families and ourselves for a disaster or an emergency, most people still aren’t prepared?  Yes, it does have something to do with our belief that it couldn’t happen to us, but I believe the checklists we are handed as we’re ordered to “do it all” overwhelm most people.  This presentation provides checklists and resources, but focuses on helping participants find that one next step they can take immediately to be better prepared.
