Closet Tools

What is Organizing

Why did the dhuck cross..

Closet Tools

I am using products from Amazon.com to show you some closet organizing tools that might be useful.  There are certainly other places to check out.   Some are listed at the bottom of this page.

Clothing

When organizing your closet, it's easier to find things if you sort like-with-like (all the pants together, short sleeve shirts separate from long sleeves, work clothing separate from casual weekend garments, or any other categories that work for you).

Over time and use the clothes can get mixed up, but with these tags you can label the various sections in your closet and know exactly where to hang the clothes again.

If you're not planning on re-doing your whole closet, one way to double your available hanging space is with a double closet rod.

Before you purchase one though, make sure you measure. You don't want the bottom row of garments to drag on the floor and you don't want the top row to get in the way of hanging the clothes below it. So measure the garments you'll be hanging. Measure the total height from main closet rod to the floor. Make sure you have room for both rows. Measure the width of the space available (the double rods are usually 30" wide). Measure, measure and measure.

Clothes valets are a great idea.  Use it to stage your clothes for the next day or hold the laundry as you are putting it away.

Or enter "clothes valet" in the search box to the left to find other options and ideas.

Hangers

Hangers are important.  Stay away from the wire hangers.  You'll want a hanger that can support your garment.

Enter "hanger" in the search box to the left to find hangers for almost everything you have.  There are some specialty hangers for belts, scarves & ties, check them out.

Shoes

Shoe Storage

I've used prettier shoe cubbies, but this is the best and easiest yet.

Pros:
  • large enough to fit both your athletic shoes in one box (women's);
  • easy access (makes it more likely I'll put the shoes back);
  • configure the cubbie system to fit your needs (long and low, tall and narrow, even stair stepped, or more than one); and
  • inexpensive (I got my first system at Costco, but haven't seen it there since).
Cons:
  • some assembly required  and it takes some practice (email me and I can share the lessons I learned);
  • it takes up more room than other shoe racks (but hey, the shoes fit easily)
What you'll need:
  • know how many shoes you have (let go of the ones that you don't want or don't use)
  • know how much space you have to use

Enter "shoe racks" in the search box to the left to find other options for storing your shoes.

You don't have to buy from Amazon, it's just a place to start. But since I know for sure that they ship to Hawaii, that's a plus.

Make sure whatever you do buy has enough capacity for all the shoes you want in it and is sturdy enough.
